This artistic work reflected the border along the Bidasoa. Once just a line, it grew immense and impassable, burdened by words like “terrorism,” “COVID,” and “immigration.”
Daily, immigrants were stranded, dehumanized, their faces buried in their hands, surrounded by uniforms. Nights were worse: children, our age, ran along roads or hid in the cold, gripped by fear.
Before them, Basques, Jews, Spaniards, and Portuguese had crossed here too. Many settled nearby, their families still carrying the weight of past horrors. The work aimed to tell their stories, at the edge of the possible and impossible.
Many thanks to: Jose Mari Echeveste, Patxi Etxaide, Kima, Sotero, Imanol ‘Jolaski’, Marinette Apredisteguy, Philippe Pierre, Susana Fernandez, Donostia-Festak, Hendaiako mediateka and all our friends who provided us with their stories and photographs.
