Children and teenagers learn traditional music by ear in Rufina

LABORATORI PER BAMBINI E RAGAZZI I
Weekly workshop of traditional peasant music

Centro Infanzia Famiglia Rufina
Rufina, Florence, Italy
October 2025 – May 2026

This is an initiative of La Leggera as part of the “Creative Europe Tramontana IV” project.

This video documents the weekly workshop for children and teenagers held at the Centre for Childhood, Adolescence and Family in Rufina from October 2025 to May 2026. Using the tools of the peasant oral tradition, children and teenagers were introduced to music and instrumental practice through the body and the voice, always favouring learning “by ear”.

The workshop was led by Marco Magistrali, with musical material from LASCITO (Social Archive of the Intangible Culture of Eastern Tuscany). The lessons covered guitar, mandolin, accordion, keyboards, percussion and brass.
