Description:

“Two Brotherly Hills” is an audiovisual essay of “ethno-poiesis” by Luís Gomes da Costa that links the local accounts told about two hills some three hundred kilometres apart: Pico Sacro, in the municipality of Boqueixón (near Santiago de Compostela, in the Galician province of A Coruña), and Monte de São Macário, in the municipality of São Pedro do Sul (in the Portuguese region of Viseu Dão Lafões). Both hills are tied to saints who came from faraway lands, Alexandria and Jerusalem, and both are symbolically associated with aspects of the health of the human brain.

The essay tries to give an artistic answer to a free intuition: that there may be an “invisible” process behind the kinship between certain hills, the result of a crossed combination of geology, morphology, meteorology, psychology, culture and sacredness.

Work produced by Binaural Nodar (Viseu Dão Lafões, Portugal) in partnership with Chester College International School (Santiago de Compostela, Galicia), as part of the author’s doctoral research in the Doctoral Programme in Artistic Creation of the University of Aveiro.
