HOW DOES THE GARDE CAMERA WORK?
Photography workshop with Asier Gogortza

Garde (Navarre)
Spain
April 11th, 2026

This is an initiative of Audiolab as part of the “Creative Europe Tramontana IV” project.

The Garde Camera is a pinhole camera designed by the photographer Asier Gogortza and donated to the village of Garde in 2025. It is made from the wood of a walnut tree from Garde and is specifically designed to photograph the village’s walnut trees, which feature prominently in the landscape and with which the villagers have maintained a close relationship for many generations.

At Saturday’s workshop, some of the residents of Garde learnt how to use the camera, load negatives, frame shots and develop the photographs in the darkroom. The young people of Garde were particularly involved, so it is fair to say that the project has a bright future and that the camera is in good hands: from now on, it will be they who continue to photograph the walnut trees of Garde.

The activity documents the public and natural space of the village together with its inhabitants, in tune with the previous activity dedicated to the soundscape.
