“LANDSCAPES, VOICES AND FLAVOURS OF THE UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY IN VISEU”
April–May 2026
An event organized by Binaural Nodar – Associação Cultural, as part of the Tramontana Network project.
Since late April 2026, ethnographic interviews with Ukrainian residents of Viseu have been taking place at Casa da Ribeira as part of an ongoing sensory, gastronomic, and artistic research project.
The project, co-funded by the Creative Europe program (Tramontana Network), is a co-production of Binaural Nodar, the Association of Ukrainians in Viseu, and the Municipality of Viseu, through the Casa da Ribeira team: Diana Silva, Cláudia Carnevale, and Iryna Oliinyk. The latter, being Ukrainian, has been conducting the interviews in Ukrainian, which will later be translated and subtitled into Portuguese.
The Binaural Nodar team conducting the interviews consists of Luís Costa, Nely Ferreira, and Ana Margarida Ferreira, while the team from the Association of Ukrainians in Viseu involved in the project includes Natalka Konopko, Dmytro Melnyk, and Kateryna Holovko.
The interviews will continue over the coming weeks, and in June the project’s first culinary event will take place, with the date and location to be announced shortly. The project will culminate in the fourth quarter of 2026 with a retrospective exhibition curated by the three co-producing organizations.
We would like to thank the Association of Ukrainians in Viseu and Casa da Ribeira for their fantastic help, as well as the community of this wonderful country for their cooperation.
