In the context of Tramontana Network III projects, a series of interviews were conducted by Ana Rodríguez in the villages of Várzea de Calde and Cabrum (Viseu Dão Lafões, Portugal) with inhabitants born between the 1930s and 1990s, with the aim of discussing various links with the plant world, which have developed over time. With this in mind, a series of sound documents have been edited which are available to the public. These are part of a plot we call an archive, which relates, through digital technology, individual, family and collective memories rooted in the same territory.

This project was conceived for the Linen Museum of Várzea de Calde and arose from the concept of archive, reflecting on the possible combinations between a catalog of archived documents and the evocative presence of material elements, plants, images and sounds linked to the universe of plants.

This project is dedicated to those who slept on rye straw mattresses, to those who wore some linen clothes, to those who think about what they eat, to those who choose what they eat or eat what they can, to all those who have sweat and who have been restless to produce food to their families and their animals, to those who still keep a tool or a piece of furniture made by a family member, to those who have felt cold, who wore clogs, who made their own toys, were moved by contemplating the landscape they inhabit, who stole a flower or do not forget a scent.

This research was also part of a partnership between Binaural/Nodar and Sound Map of Uruguay.

Here is a set of selected interviews made during the course of this research project.
