Conference/lecture

Organized by La Leggera, as part of the Creative Europe Tramontana IV project.

A journey of discovery will take place through the different ritual forms of Carnival in Valdisieve, exploring traditions and cultural practices that are still alive today, those etched in memory, and others preserved in the historical archives of the region’s municipalities.

Marco Magistrali and Filippo Marranci, members of the association’s Research and Archives Commission, will guide participants toward a deeper knowledge and understanding of the ritual forms and meanings that continue to characterise Carnival in Valdisieve—a celebration that traditionally begins on 5 January, the eve of Epiphany, and concludes on Ash Wednesday.

To support this exploration, a selection of documents preserved at L.A.S.C.I.T.O. (Light Social Archives of Intangible Culture in Eastern Tuscany) will be presented, including materials produced as part of the Tramontana project as well as other archival sources from across the region.
