A journey of discovery through the different ritual forms of Carnival in Valdisieve, through traditions and realities that are still alive today, those that remain engraved in memories and those present in the historical archives of the municipalities in the region.
Marco Magistrali and Filippo Marranci, members of the association’s Research and Archives Commission, guided participants towards a deeper knowledge and understanding of the ritual forms and meanings that still characterise Carnival in Valdisieve, which traditionally begins on 5 January, the eve of Epiphany, and ends on Ash Wednesday.
To this end, a selection of documents preserved at L.A.S.C.I.T.O. (Light Social Archives of Intangible Culture in Eastern Tuscany) were presented, including documentation produced as part of the Tramontana project and other archives in the region.
