STORIES BY THE FIRE: BOOK PRESENTATION OF “LETTERS FROM HERDING”

The presentation of the book “Lettere dalla pastorizia. Scritture di pastori transumanti di Fano Adriano”, by Berardino Nisii, Gianfranco Spitilli and Roberta Tucci, published by Bambun Edizioni/Centro Studi Don Nicola Jobbi in September 2024, will be held at Casa Rascelli in Poggio Cancelli as part of the Cultural Festival of the Rural Villages of Laga.
The book is the result of extensive research begun in previous cycles of Tramontana, aimed at analysing the writings of shepherds, the letters they wrote to their families when they were away from home during the long autumn, winter and spring months, from September to June. The core of the documents considered also includes family photographs and films shot inside the sheepfolds in the Roman countryside, where the sheep and shepherds moved at the end of the summer.
In addition to the authors, the presentation will be attended by Vittorio Camacci, tourist, environmental and hiking guide and writer, Fabrizio Magnani, demo-ethno-anthropologist at the ICCD (Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo e la Documentazione, Ministero della Cultura), with poetic and musical improvisations in octave rhyme and tercets by Pietro De Acutis, Francesco Marconi, Alessio Runci, accompanied by Antonio Di Cintio on the ciaramella.
The event is organised in collaboration with the European project Tramontana Network.
