Description :
This radio programme is part of Radio País and was produced within the framework of the European Rede Tramontana (Réseau Tramontana / Tramontana Network) project, co-funded by the European Union. The project aims to safeguard and disseminate Europe’s oral heritage by collecting testimonies, traditional knowledge, local history, and cultural expressions, making them accessible to both local communities and future generations.
In this episode of Reality and Humanity, the presenter welcomes Jean-Paul Ferré, President of the Eth Ostau association, to discuss an educational resource developed from the project’s fieldwork. The “pedagogical case” brings together documents, photographs, audio recordings, and video extracts from interviews conducted in the Couserans and Comminges regions. Designed for schools, libraries, and the general public, it offers an accessible way to discover the language, history, landscapes, and cultural heritage of these mountain territories while encouraging the transmission of local knowledge.
The programme also focuses on the village of Aulus-les-Bains and its rich historical heritage before introducing the testimony of Michel Prat, born in 1938. Through his childhood memories of the German occupation during the Second World War, listeners hear a moving account that highlights both the hardships of wartime life and the complexity of human relationships. The discussion concludes by stressing the importance of preserving oral testimonies, not only as historical evidence but also as an educational tool that helps younger generations understand the past and appreciate the value of collective memory.
