Organized by Bambun APS, as part of the Creative Europe Tramontana IV project.
“Letters from the Pastoral. Writings of Transhumant Shepherds from Fano Adriano”, by Berardino Nisii, Gianfranco Spitilli, and Roberta Tucci, was published in September 2024 by Bambun/Centro Studi Don Nicola Jobbi.
The volume is the result of extensive research begun during earlier editions of the Tramontana project. It explores the writings of shepherds—letters sent to their families during the long months they spent away from home between September and June—as well as family photographs and archival film footage from the armentaria farm in the Campagna Romana, where flocks and shepherds moved at the end of summer.
A presentation of the book took place in the inner courtyard of the ‘Melchiorre Dèlfico’ Regional Library in Teramo, in collaboration with the University of Teramo, the Department of Political Science, and HistoryLab, an interdepartmental research centre.
The event featured the authors alongside guests including Dimitri Bosi (Director of the Dèlfico Library), Luigi Servi (President of the Municipality of Fano Adriano), Fausta Gallo (Director of the Department of Political Science, University of Teramo), sociologist Rita Salvatore (University of Teramo), Luigi Guerrieri (author and specialist in transhumance), Antonello Ricci (anthropologist, Sapienza University of Rome), and members of the family of Leonardo Riccioni.
